In 2017, Landcare Australia partnered with Little Creatures, a Western Australian brewing company to support the Coastcare community.
The most recent project funded by Little Creatures was a $10,000 Coastcare grant awarded to the Yallingup Land Conservation District Committee to support a restoration and protection project in the iconic Margaret River region, specifically the natural area in Yallingup, surrounded by the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park, identified as an iconic surf location.
Increased tourism had resulted in a higher risk of coastal features becoming degraded through more frequent foot traffic and pedestrians accessing the bushland areas off the formal paths. A large portion of the funds were used to construct a 130m gravel pathway leading visitors from the carpark around the most heavily visited features in a circular walk.
Completed in late 2020, this project has highlighted the importance of managing the impacts of tourism on a popular, sensitive site so that the natural environment remains healthy whilst enhancing the visitor experience. Read Case Study.
In 2018-2019, in conjunction with Rusty, a global surf wear and surf board company, Little Creatures supported the Toast to the Coast Grants. Five Western Australian Coastcare groups received grants administered by Landcare Australia.
