The 2017 National Tree Day Wingecarribee event will be on Saturday 21 October on the Wingecarribee River at Burradoo, adjacent to the Bong Bong walking & cycle track. This site was cleared of woody and viny weeds by our Green Army team at the end of 2016 and then partially planted. The focus will be on planting native sedges, rushes, grasses and shrubs with a scattering of trees to link up with the remnant vegetation to provide riverbank stability and improve both habitat values and the amenity of the many people who use the Bong Bong track. We anticipate that the volunteers will plant, guard, mulch and water 1,000 native plants before enjoying a free BBQ lunch.
Also featuring at the Tree Day event will be before-after photo displays, bird spotting tours conducted by Birdlife Southern Highlands, native plant give-aways by Greening Australia and the official launch of the Wall to Wollondilly Project.
