4 Pines turn thumbs green in the Aussie Men’s Cricket team this summer – and the environment wins
Aussie beer legends, 4 Pines Brewing Co., joined forces with Cricket Australia and Landcare Australia to make an environmental impact via the bat this summer through the ‘4 Pines 4’ – an initiative which will see four trees planted for every four hit by the Australian Men’s Cricket Team.
Upholding their commitment to Brew Better, 4 Pines will fund the re-green of a significant bushfire-impacted site in South Australia, seeing native Australian trees, shrubs and groundcovers planted at Cape Jervis on South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula.
Planting native trees, shrubs and groundcovers across 44 hectares in this strategic location will enhance landscape connectivity, improve biodiversity and provide long term habitat for threatened species, including the Glossy Black Cockatoo.
This project will help re-establish native vegetation as well as creating a variety of ecosystems that will attract other native plants and animals, a vital environmental contribution following significant damage from the 2019/20 Black Summer bushfires.
The initiative follows the recent announcement of 4 Pines Brewing Co. as the official beer of The Australian Men’s Cricket Team, bringing Aussie spirit and craft beer to punters across Australia for the summer of Cricket but in true brand ethos, not without a ‘green’ lining.
4 Pines Chief Operating Officer, Todd Atkinson, said: “Since our inception we have aspired to brew better. This collaboration to make a difference with our mates at Landcare Australia and through the bat with Cricket Australia is perfect!”
Landcare Australia, Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Shane Norrish, said: “There’s nothing we love more than Aussie brands coming together to do better for the natural environment and we are thrilled to have the full support of Australia’s top sportsmen and local brewery right beside us. We are looking forward to community led landcare groups regenerating important native habitat backed by 4 Pines and Cricket Australia.”
The initiative will run across all three formats of the game, starting this Wednesday 8th December when the Australian Men’s Cricket team play at Brisbane in the first match of the Ashes Series.
Steph Beltrame, Cricket Australia’s Executive General Manager of Commercial & Broadcasting, said: “Cricket Australia is thrilled to be working with 4 Pines to drive a sustainability message through cricket. It’s fantastic that Cricket Australia’s partnership with 4 Pines will make a real and meaningful difference in the community and for the environment. We congratulate 4 Pines and Landcare Australia on this initiative and looking forward to many boundaries being struck in this year’s Ashes Series.”
The 4 Pines 4 Trees initiative will be supported by some fantastic community service media across summer featuring a very fitting representative for Aussie Cricket – Ashes Test captain, Pat Cummins. Pat is a passionate advocate for sustainability and combating climate change, leading the charge as an agent for change within Australian cricket and inspiring the team to get involved in scoring 4s and working towards our tree planting goal.
Pat Cummins, Australian Test Cricket Captain, said: “The Aussie team is very excited to be part of 4 Pines 4 Trees during the Ashes series. What an incredible incentive to get more runs on the board across the Summer, be rewarded and make a considerable contribution to our environment. Something that’s not been done before in cricket”.
