WildSeek supports community hubs for the conservation
and rescue of native species
WildSeek is a community-led initiative that brings together local knowledge, drone technology and scientific analysis to improve how native species, weeds and pest animals are identified, monitored and managed across Australia.
First developed by Landcare Australia in partnership with WIRES and Queensland University of Technology, the project was established following the 2019–2020 Black Summer bushfires to address critical gaps in information about koala populations and other threatened wildlife.
Since then, the project and partners have grown with the development of WildSeek Weeds, growing the capacity of community-led conservation and management using emerging technologies.
What is WildSeek?
WildSeek strengthens community-led conservation by equipping landcare groups with the technology and skills needed to identify, monitor, and manage native fauna, invasive weeds and pest animals. Its impact lies in improving emergency response, informing habitat protection, and building long-term local capacity for evidence-based environmental management.
WildSeek supports community capacity
WildSeek supports the development of skills, particularly with using drones and other technology to generate accurate data that will help communities and landholders make informed decisions about planning for how they can protect and manage native habitat in their region.
WildSeek Fauna
Supporting the community for the conservation and rescue of native species.
Landcare Australia, NSW Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service (WIRES), and Queensland University of Technology (QUT) partnered to develop The WildSeek Project. The WildSeek Project was created in response to the impact of the Black Summer Bushfires in 2019/2020 on koala populations and other threatened species, with the project made possible due to donations made to Landcare Australia and WIRES.
WildSeek Weeds
Supporting the community to identify, monitor, and manage weeds in the landscape.
Landcare Australia and the Centre of Invasive Species Solutions (CISS) are working together to deliver WildSeek Weeds. WildSeek Weeds has developed from a need to help communities, landholders and NRM managers improve the identification, monitoring and management of invasive weed species in both the agricultural and conservation landscape.
