Landcare Agriculture’s inclusion in the Australian Beef Sustainability Framework (ABSF) Steakholder newsletter is more than welcome recognition — it reflects growing industry interest in practical, producer-led approaches that strengthen biodiversity, natural capital and farm resilience while supporting profitable beef production.
Delivered by Landcare Australia, the Landcare Agriculture program works alongside producers, advisors, researchers, Landcare groups and industry partners to translate sustainability into practical on-ground outcomes. Through science-led demonstration, biodiversity monitoring, emissions awareness and peer-to-peer learning, the program is helping producers integrate environmental stewardship into everyday farm business decisions.
Importantly, the spotlight generated strong interest within the beef industry. ABSF Program Manager Jacob Betros noted the Landcare Agriculture feature performed particularly well within the Steakholder eNews, commenting that these types of spotlight stories can sometimes “sit lower in the mix,” making the response a strong indication of beef industry interest in the Landcare connection and practical sustainability initiatives supporting production agriculture.
That interest reflects growing momentum around the Landcare Ag Biodiversity in Action program, which is supporting producer-led biodiversity projects across Australia. Within the beef and grazing sector, projects such as the Northern Beef (NB2) Indigenous-led biodiversity monitoring initiative in Far North Queensland (an MLA program) — and the Gascoyne coordinated grazing project in Western Australia are demonstrating how biodiversity management, cultural knowledge, grazing productivity and landscape resilience can work together in practice.
The spotlight also coincides with national recognition for leading producers Landcare Ag collaborators & like Leather Cattle Co, winners of the 2025 Australian Government Sustainable Agriculture Landcare Award. Their success reinforces the strong alignment between climate innovation, biodiversity stewardship and productive, profitable agriculture and Beef production systems.
Landcare Ag continues to demonstrate that sustainability is not separate from production agriculture — productivity, profitability and environmental resilience are deeply interconnected. By supporting practical trials, science-led monitoring and trusted extension partnerships, the program is helping producers navigate emerging sustainability expectations while strengthening agricultural businesses from the ground up.
Trusted industry relationships remain central to that work, and Landcare Australia values the important collaboration with MLA and the Australian Beef Sustainability Framework in helping connect producers with credible, practical sustainability leadership across the beef sector.
