The VicTrack and Landcare Australia partnership funded six projects in 2024 to protect and enhance areas of native vegetation on railway and other land.

The funding enabled Landcare groups to significantly improve the land through revegetation, pest and weed control, habitat restoration and by engaging Traditional Owners and the wider community in conservation efforts.

As the owner and custodian of rail transport land across Victoria, this partnership reflects VicTrack’s commitment to making the most of its assets and supporting enhanced environmental outcomes with local communities.

As many VicTrack funded projects are large-scale, they receive funding over multiple years.

In 2024 VicTrack funding supported the following projects:

  • The Great Victorian Rail Trail Project (Upper Goulburn Landcare Network)
  • Operation Weed Control (Stanhope-Girgarre Landcare Group)
  • Bush Regeneration and Community Engagement Along the Bellarine Rail Reserve (Bellarine Catchment Network)
  • Whittlesea & Surrounds Blackberry Action (Whittlesea and Surrounds Blackberry Action Group)
  • War on Weeds – Bungower to Oakbank Roads (Mornington Environment Association Inc.)
  • A Bandicoot Biolink: Improving connectivity and resilience of the Southern Brown Bandicoot (Gippsland Threatened Species Action Group)

If your group is interested in working on VicTrack vacant land, please contact Landcare Australia via [email protected] to discuss land access and funding opportunities.
