VicTrack’s partnership with Landcare Australia supports local Landcare organisations across Victoria to achieve significant environmental and community outcomes by providing funding that enables revegetation, pest and weed control, habitat restoration, and engagement of Traditional Owners and the wider community to protect and enhance native vegetation areas on VicTrack land.

As the owner and custodian of rail transport land across Victoria, this partnership reflects VicTrack’s commitment to making the most of its assets and supporting enhanced environmental outcomes with local communities.

As many VicTrack funded landcare projects are large-scale, they receive funding over multiple years.

In 2024-25, VicTrack funded six projects, The Great Victorian Rail Trail (Upper Goulburn Landcare Network), Restoring Bellarine Railway Biodiversity (Bellarine Landcare Group), Operation Weed Control (Stanhope-Girgarre Landcare Group), War on Weeds (Mornington Environment Association Inc), A Bandicoot Biolink (Gippsland Threatened Species Action Group) and Whittlesea and Surrounds Blackberry Action Group.

Across the projects 2,300 plants were established, 189 hectares of weed control undertaken, enhancing biodiversity conservation and habitat quality.

Through 160 local community events, 432 volunteers contributed over 1,254 hours, helping to manage and preserve the natural heritage of the sites.

In 2025-26 VicTrack are funding six projects:

  • The Great Victorian Rail Trail (Upper Goulburn Landcare Network)
  • Restoring Bellarine Railway Biodiversity (Bellarine Landcare Group)
  • Protecting, enhancing and extending the biodiversity values of the Hidden Valley Rail Reserve (Wallan Environment Group)
  • Raising Community Awareness: Understanding > Connection > Care (Mornington Environment Association Inc)
  • A Bandicoot Biolink 2: Improving connectivity and resilience of the Southern Brown Bandicoot (Bass Coast Landcare Network)
  • Whittlesea and Surrounds Blackberry Action Group Project (Whittlesea and Surrounds Blackberry Action Group)
