Pioneering Landcare Women #BeBoldForChange

On International Women’s Day, we would like to commemorate two pioneering Landcare champions, the late Joan Kirner, (former Minister for Conservation, Forests and Lands) and Heather Mitchell, (former President of the Victorian Farmers Federation).

The name ‘Landcare’ evolved in Victoria through an initiative of these two remarkable women, and with the generous support of community members, farmers and departmental officers, Heather and Joan were able to launch ‘Landcare’ in a small town in central Victoria in November 1986. As we celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, let’s remember these two bold, inspirational women. #BeBoldForChange
