Landcare Australia welcomes budget announcement for landcare
Landcare Australia is very pleased to see the $302m budget investment to support farmers manage their natural capital and respond to the opportunities created by the emerging environmental markets. In recent years, farmers and other landholders have sought to better understand their carbon footprints, the options for emissions reduction and the opportunities for managing and/or improving native vegetation management to capture carbon and generate better biodiversity in agricultural landscapes. This investment should result in better integration of conservation with agricultural productivity, which is at the heart of landcare.
It is particularly pleasing to see the budget supporting integration of First Nations practices into management of natural capital and development of decision support tools to enable farmers to assess their options with greater confidence. Access to independent, reliable and objective information in this area is critical for farmers and other land managers. We look forward to working with the Australian Government on designing and implementing this important investment.
