What can we learn from our feathered friends?
This week why not go outside with your students and family and contribute to the Aussie Backyard Bird Count.
Understanding your local environment helps to build awareness of your local biodiversity and contribute to this Australia wide bird count.
Explore your school ‘backyard” with the children and observe the antics of birds feeding on nectar, insects or building nests as they prepare to breed. Listen out as they communicate with one another as they call, chirp and chatter.
Record your sightings and use the app or website to learn about the birds you don’t know. This helps to learn a lot about the health of our shared habitat and environment.
What sparks the children’s curiosity from this exploration? What would they like to explore further and how might they be empowered Junior Landcarers?
