A sip is a quid for Landcare
A new beer named after former Prime Minister, Bob Hawke, will see funding for community Landcare projects through a new partnership.
A percentage of profits from the sales of Hawkes Lager will go to Landcare Australia, which has entered into a partnership with Hawkes Brewing Co. Mr Hawke will also kindly donate his royalties to the grass-roots movement which was launched as a national initiative by the Hawke Government.
Following a joint submission to government from the Australian Conservation Foundation and the National Farmers Federation, the Decade of Landcare was launched by Mr Hawke in Wentworth, New South Wales, in 1989.
On the day he said:
“Ladies and gentlemen when the earth is spoiled, humanity and all living things are diminished. I give my commitment to you, kids, that my generation will hand to you a better county and a brighter future.”
This initiative catapulted Landcare to the national stage and the movement has since grown to encompass more than 5,000 groups working on a variety of local environmental issues across the country.
Hawke’s Lager is currently on sale in a number of venues in Sydney and Newcastle.
