The Coca-Cola Foundation and Landcare Australia Coastal Protection Grants

 

From 2018-2021, 32 Coca-Cola Foundation and Landcare Australia Coastal Protection grants valued at up to $15,000 each were awarded to Landcare and Coastcare groups across Australia, funding a range of environmental, social and educational projects.

2018

In 2018, The Coca-Cola Foundation and Landcare Australia Coastal Protection Grants funded nine coastal protection projects across QLD, NSW, VIC, SA and WA. The projects saw over 180kg of rubbish removed from more than 35 kilometres of coastline, including 150kg of recyclable materials. Over 2,200 plants were established, 2,140 plants propagated, 1.8 hectares of coastal areas rehabilitated and 14 community events held.

2019

In 2019, eight coastal protection projects across QLD, NSW, VIC, SA, WA and the NT were funded through The Coca-Cola Foundation and Landcare Australia Coastal Protection Grants. The projects saw over 900 volunteers remove more than 3.5 tonnes of marine debris and litter collected including significant quantities of fishing related items. Over 7,800 native plants were established, more than 36 hectares of coastal areas managed and rehabilitated, and 76 events were hosted to increase community engagement.

2020

In 2020, The Coca-Cola Foundation and Landcare Australia Coastal Protection Grants funded nine coastal protection projects across QLD, NSW, VIC, SA, WA and the NT. Despite the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, almost 1000 people came together to collect over 26 tonnes of litter from 32 kilometres of coastline. 3,527 plants were established, 21 biodiversity surveys were conducted and 84 events were hosted to support community engagement in coastal protection.

2021

In 2021, eight coastal protection projects across NSW, SA, TAS, WA and the NT were funded by The Coca-Cola Foundation and Landcare Australia Coastal Protection Grants. Over 1000 people were involved in the projects which saw over 11 tonnes of litter collected from coastal areas, including close to two tonnes being diverted from landfill. 1,918 plants were established, weed control undertaken on 310 hectares of land and 89 events were hosted to support community engagement in coastal protection.
